US-60 Trayfiller

This new filler is the first filler that is able to fill trays up to a width of 600mm.

Fig 1. US-60 Filler

This new filler is the first filler that is able to fill trays up to a width of 600mm. There are several transplanters on the market at the moment that receive trays long side leading. To avoid expensive tray turning systems, Visser developed a filler that eliminates the need for the tray turner. The soil or growing media is dumped into the hopper which is situated at the side of the machine. The content of the hopper is about 800 litre. The soil is moved by a belt conveyor from the front of the hopper to the end where the soil elevator is mounted. The soil elevator is elevating the soil to the buffer hopper. The buffer hopper is mounted above the conveyor belt that transports the trays that need to be filled. The amount of soil in the buffer hopper is controlled  by a sensor. When the soil is below a specific level the soil elevator will supply more soil until the upper level is reached.By changing the output gate of the buffer hopper and the speed of the belt in the buffer hopper the soil output flow is set. Trays are placed on the roller conveyor by hand or by a machine that is placed in front of the filler. When the tray triggers a photo eye on the beginning of the roller conveyor, the filling process starts. The vibrator underneath the trays starts vibrating for a better filling result, this way bridging is avoided. The buffer hopper dumps the soil in the tray and the rotor brushes the soil to create the needed compactness of the soil. Any excess soil is falling trough the rollers of the roller conveyor, back in to the main soil hopper.
